Does Panax Ginseng Actually Work?
Panax ginseng, also known as Asian or Korean ginseng, contains biologically active compounds called ginsenosides and has been investigated for fatigue, cognition, glucose metabolism and several other outcomes.
For mental performance, current evidence is considerably more nuanced than typical supplement marketing suggests.
A 2024 systematic review and meta-analysis of 15 randomized controlled trials involving 671 participants found a small statistically significant improvement in memory, but did not find significant improvements in overall cognition, attention or executive function.

Look for a clearly identified Panax ginseng product with transparent extract information and a stated ginsenoside standardization rather than relying only on large “root equivalent” numbers.

A single universal “optimal dose” cannot be extracted from the research because clinical trials use different preparations, extract concentrations and ginsenoside profiles.
